My advice would be to focus on one venue, whichever one you are most comfortable on until you have it mastered in every aspect and have succeeded in achieving the first step in your online sales goals.

Your goal might be in number of sales per month or gross sales volume, and which one is not important. What IS important is that you both set a target and write down the target. Then break it down into smaller bites, weekly goals. Don’t obsess, focus.

Put all of your energy into promoting your product, not the venue, by being a good interweb citizen, not spamming but being around will cause natural curiosity and curiosity leads to sales.

Depending on your venue you have fine tuning of your google base feed, your pricing strategy and use of keywords in titles and descriptions to work on.

When it comes to choosing a sales format (auction or fixed price) a lot depends on your product. Most who are set on auction don’t get prices that make it worth the effort, the days of crazy bidding are over. The economy does not help. When you set your minimum bid you are in effect setting the lowest price you can take. If you only get one bid how is that different from setting a realistic fixed price?

For what it is worth I haven’t bid on an online auction in years. Live auctions yes, love em!

I feel a blog post coming on, oh dear!
